The right approach to mortgage lending

Mortgages are confusing and come with their own language. I help clients eliminate the mortgage clutter and break down the complex into simple and easy to understand terms.

It’s important to take the right approach towards your mortgage loan. A mortgage is the largest debt that most people will ever have in their lifetimes. Therefore, it’s important to think of a mortgage as a financial tool that should be integrated into a larger overall financial plan. This approach can potentially save you thousands of dollars.

 

As a Mortgage Professional, I have two primary roles:

1. Help buyers get into the best possible position to qualify for their mortgage. I have a firm belief that everyone qualifies for a mortgage loan. However, sometimes mortgage lending guidelines firmly disagree. When this happens, I advise prospective home buyers on the specific steps needed to qualify for any type of home loan, and how long those steps might take. For those that do qualify, there may be potential to improve their interest rate or loan program. If this is the case, we’ll talk about what actions to take in order to be in the best possible position to obtain the very best financing.

2. I educate and inform my clients, empowering them to make great decisions about the type of home mortgage they obtain. More significantly, I assist my clients in designing the perfect mortgage that is right for them, not for the bank. There are literally hundreds of ways in which a mortgage can be structured. Unlike other lenders, I can offer options that give my clients the ability to choose their own interest rate, help them make decisions about whether to include taxes and insurance in the payment, if it’s wise to pay mortgage insurance with less than 20% down, or if it makes sense to pay closing costs or not.

Some loan programs have restrictions while others do not. Understanding your options and how different loans work makes a big difference. Take the approach of being empowered with good information in order to design the perfect mortgage for your unique situation. This will result in you having a customized mortgage plan which can save thousands or even tens of thousands of dollars over the course of your loan.

Thousands of clients have obtained mortgage financing with Gabe Terreson’s assistance. During his 16-year mortgage career, Gabe has been a consistent top performer as a Loan Originator, Mortgage Advisor, Sales Manager and Branch Manager, having had an ownership or management capacity in a mortgage company since 2000.

An expert in mortgage lending guidelines, Gabe is knowledgeable in the Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Selling Guides, the HUD 4155 Handbook, and the VA Lender’s Handbook, as well as the specific Underwriting Guidelines for hundreds of different loan products offered by various mortgage lenders. This knowledge has allowed Gabe to help his clients obtain financing countless times over the years when other lenders couldn’t perform due to their Loan Officers not having such detailed knowledge and understanding of lending guidelines.

In Gabe’s words…

I am blessed with an amazing family. I’ve been with my wife Kim since we met in 1996 in Whitefish, Montana. Our two boys, Gage and Cole, could not be more different from one another. One looks like his mom and acts like his dad while the other looks like his dad and acts like his mom.

As a husband, life is great if my wife is happy. My job description is to love, cherish, honor, protect and respect her. If I do a good job, all is well. If not, I’m not happy until I improve my performance. As a father, I do my best to prepare my boys for what the world will throw at them while also having as much fun as we possibly can.

We love to go on adventures of all kinds, enjoy family movie nights, visiting with friends throughout the Northwest, and rooting for the Seattle Mariners and Seattle Seahawks. We spent two amazing years at the Oregon Coast as I worked remotely, exploring every beach and trail we could find from Astoria to Bandon.

At every opportunity during every day life we replace fear, doubt and worry with bravery, hope and faith. We believe that life is a series of choices and that there is a correct response to all situations, even while experiencing challenges.
